Eruption: Eyjafjallajokull's last eruption since December 1821-January 1823, occurred on March 20, 2010 and lasted until June 23, 2010. The eruption created an ash plume of approximately 30,000 ft high which rated the eruption a 4 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. The ash plume spread all over northern Europe, and across the Atlantic into parts of North America. The plume caused air traffic to stop in affected areas for six days. Eyjafjallajokull affected economic, political, and cultural activities across the world.
