Mount Etna is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, close to Messina and Catania mt. Etna is the largest active volcano in Europe. It lies above the convergent plate margin between the African Plate and the Eurasian Plate. Volcanic activity first took place at Etna about half a million years ago. The Italian volcano has been very active lately and its last eruption was on december 30th 2013 this was Etna's 20th eruption of 2013.Nearby residents were not in danger because it was a minor eruption like it always is.
