Mt. Merupi is a stratovolcano. It is an active volcano that has a small eruption about every 2-3 years, and a large eruption about every 10-15 years. Mt. Merupi's last eruption was in late October to early November in which 353 people were killed, and over 350,000 people evacuated. Mt. Merupi's elevation is 9,610 ft. Mt. Merupi was formed by subduction. Mt. Merupi in Indonesian and Javanese means fire mountain.
